The CEC will release their final figure for the previous season, 2015, South African maize crop production at 15:30 local time today. The expectation is to see maize produced for 2015 to remain unchanged at 9.94mil t as shown by the red dotted line in the graph below. The final estimate has shown change of 1.72%, on average and on an absolute basis, from the 8th estimate over the previous 6 seasons (2009-2014). This equates to roughly 170,000t adjustment. Traders will remain focused on Rand/Dollar movements but more so on local weather, – rain, and temperatures that effect the current 2016 maize crop.
